When archeologist Arne Berger returns from a trip, his wife Eva has seemingly disappeared. A police investigation begins, and slowly he learns the truth about his wife. Eva had been a drug addict, introduced into her condition while working at a pharmacy. Her marriage to Berger represented her attempt to break her downward spiral, but the pressures of the relationship eventually forced her to seek out the contacts from her former life.
Edith Carlmar was Norway's first female film director. With her husband Otto Carlmar as producer she made ten feature films between 1949 and 1959 - all of them great hits at the box office. Although considerably successful, Edith suddenly decided to quit filmmaking after The Wayward girl (Ung flukt) in 1959 - a film that brought the most famous Norwegian actress to the Silver Screen: Liv Ullman.
Carlmar passed away in 2003, but the last ten years of her life she received international attention, and retrospectives was arranged in London, New York, Seattle and at festivals in Germany and France.
