What is the goal of life? It is to create yourself a soul.
- Alejandro Jodorowsky

Background story:

In-On-Under-In front-Behind. I woke up in the darkest of rooms lacking a precise symbol, but I did not feel vertiginous this time. It seemed both minuscule and monumental, analeptic and apocalyptic, suspended and burdensome, heated and chilled, moist and barren, natural yet unnatural. No entry, no exit.

I was cloaking all this time immemorial, coiled in and around the same questions. But I won't elaborate the fact of the fiction from the fiction of the fact. Riding the macrocosm of contradictions and its fractal paradoxes will merely keep you entangled in the closed loop of the infinitely small paraphrasing the infinitely big paraphrasing the infinitely small (You know the drill you got to chill).

[Kickstarting mnemonic neurological connections]

She assured me then, hoping I would propel myself out of orbit:
“A preposition; a spacial or temporal relation, that's all. Shed skins and pay attention to the whispering walls.”

APCLPSTK is a mystical exploration series by artist Ellen Ringstad (b.1981, Norway), in which she searches for the vision and the voice of mythical creature APCLPSTK from the realm beyond good and evil, hoping to gather - and maybe channel- some id ego superego intelligence from a world beyond intelligence to counteract the final Apocalypse.

Ringstad's ongoing expedition started amongst the ancient roots of her own maternal roots, ever-progressing from within the indigenous and unraped subtropical evergreens in the Laurisilva forest on Madeira island, crisscrossing the labyrinthine inner and outer reaches of human consciousness (or lack thereof), in a quest conceivably reminiscent of Voltaire's Candide.

“Utopian consciousness wants to look far into the distance, but ultimately only in order to penetrate the darkness so near it, of the just lived moment, in which everything that is both drives and is hidden from itself. In other words, we need the most powerful telescope, that of unpolished utopian consciousness, in order to penetrate the nearest nearness”
- Ernst Bloch. The Principle of Hope.

In her ritualistic examinations of existence and transcendence, Ringstad more often that not scavenges surplus or waste materials and re-appropriates it, drawing parallels to alchemical formulae, mysticism, 'occult' symbolism, existential philosophy and psychotherapy, with the hope that we -as individuals and as a species- can elevate ourselves from feces to golden turds, and hopefully heal the abyssal wounds of our collective unconscious and habitat. We must learn -in Voltairian terms – to “cultivate our gardens.”
